It’s not that I left. I’ve just been struggling with life (like everyone else) and the state of things in The Town. Frankly, I have been fighting avoid talking about the same ole complaints everyone else has been on: The Economy. Occupy Oakland. Mayoral Recall. A ruptured Achilles tendon. All that has combined to make me a little less than motivated to write about the bright side of Oak City.

In all honesty, I started Mr. Oakland with the intent to talk about all that is good in our city. Being the eternal optimist and virtual cheerleader is tough because…can I be frank? There are some pretty shitty things happening around here. So with this first re-entry of 2012, I am committed to showing a balanced yet biased approach to the city I dig the most.
Without creating a long (dirty) laundry list of crap, I have penned a short parable. Parables worked for Jesus. Maybe it will work for Mr. Oakland

Once Upon A Time…
Think of The Bay as a family and each city as a sibling. Oakland is the second kid. Not a baby, but not an adult yet. A teenager. Work with me damn it!!!

Oakland is angry all the time. Oakland is especially pissed off during family functions because Oakland is not allowed to sit at the adult table for family dinners. Not because Oakland isn’t beautiful, smart, unique, witty, and fun, but because Oakland’s behavior is unpredictable. Pants hangin’ low, smelling like a grape-berry blunt, talkin’ loud, and over all just plain (self) disrespectful! Oakland is immature, operating below its potential, lacking self-esteem, and unpredictable.. Actually, Oakland’s unpredictability makes Oakland pretty predictable.

The adults are completely frustrated by Oakland’s inability to measure up to its big sister Fran. She’s beautiful, popular, well loved, and always being put up in Oakland’s face as “Everyone’s Favorite” even though she lacks diversity (Fran is actually pretty beige). Oakland tries to not be bothered by this and is actually pretty well grounded in its contrasting edginess and street credibility. Sometimes it's too much and Oakland can often be heard mumbling, “F*** Fran!” “What’s so special about that b**** anyway?”

Deep down inside, though, Oakland knows what’s up, and is fearful of the inherit pain involved with change. Oakland wants love, but refuses to accept the fact that there is mad love available. All Oakland must do is embrace its worthiness and step into its own greatness. Because Oakland is the Heart O the Bay, her greatness is in many ways more relevant, and more accessible than Fran’s.
Don’t try to act like you didn’t get it. Ya mean?

Why Whitney SHOULD Matter To Oakland

I got the chance to see Whitney Houston in the late summer of 1985. She was opening for soul singer Jeffrey Osborne @ The Concord Pavilion. The show was important to me only because Osborne was “my boy” from back in his LTD days: A known entity. It was a weeknight show and I arrived early to get a good lawn seat and a good parking spot. I had to dip out so I could get to work in the AM. Whitney Houston was just an after thought: A no-name with a really good first album and unworthy of further consideration.

When she sang “There’s a boy, I know…” I knew and I was done. We all knew. We all heard it. We all saw it. We all felt it. She raised the energy level so high that the headliner dude never had a chance. Who was this child reaching inside every person within earshot? I was hooked and I knew why.

She represented the style of girl I loved. She was Brown and chocolaty. Had a brilliant smile and wore a TWA (teenie weenie afro). A PERFECT example of just plain ole “Black Girl Hotness”! I knew because she was like all the girls I grew up with: The beautiful Black girls from the neighborhood, from school, from church, and from 14th & Broadway. My “Oakland Girl” from New Jersey. You know?
Even as she struggled very publicly in her relationship with her dad, her man, her family, and her drug use my love for Whitney never waned. Yeah, I laughed at the jokes, but in retrospect I now know that I
laughed to hide the pain I felt for her. The identical pain I feel for my Oakland sisters, ‘aintees’, cousins, mothers, and wives embroiiled in the same battles.

Whitney’s troubles are our troubles. We see her in the faces of so many people of all walks of life, shades, and colors in Oakland that sometimes we become numb. Sometimes we even laugh to cover our pain. Sometimes we are cruel. Sometimes we just give up and become indifferent. We are all affected daily by this “blurred self-image” of The Town and it takes a heavy toll on the entire community.

We loved Whitney when she was young and beautiful, As “drug addict” we viewed her life as entertainment and derided her. She’s gone now, and we only remember the beauty and we love her again. We loved our Oakland Girl back in the day. How many more do we have to lose before we love HER again?

MISSSEY: A Good Place To Start
Shout out to Nola Brantley, co-founder and the current Executive Director of OAKLAND-BASED MISSSEY for being named one of ABC 7’s African American Salutes honorees. MISSSEY holistically addresses the specific needs of sexually exploited youth through advocacy, inner transformation, and empowerment.

Congratulations Nola and the MISSSEY crew fo whatcha do!

Click on the link to learn more about this fantastic organization and to contribute to the cause. http://www.misssey.org/index.html

Oakland Stand Up!

Rawk and Roll & The Depths of House

Fallin' In Love All Over Again
I love Oakland and The East Bay because we embody "openness" and "inclusion" on every level. The perfect laboratory for all that is possible. No pigeon-holes allowed! Some home girls and a house head transplant from the East Coast are making THIS Friday night mighty musically tasty. Read on!

Why She Gotta Rawk Like That?
Last May, DJ Oliver invited a few friends over to celebrate his new digs-some 20+ musicians, vocalists, performers, DJs. You know? Just a little party. One of the performers was a local rapper/vocalist named Holly Saucy. I remember Holly because she was focused. So focused that she killed it in spite of a technical problem. Professional and polished. All I could think was, "Finally!" and I looked forward to an opportunity to see her do her thing again. So I was excited to hear about her new show Damn She Rawks premiering this Friday at the Shattuck Down Low.

What excited me was a featured artists list that included Saucy, Punk Funk Mob, and legendary Bay Area DJ queen Pam The Funkstress. Ok. Saw PFM last year for the first time as well (BTW they ripped it as well) and I have always wanted to hear Pam spin, but on the same bill? Did I mention that Jessica Holter (Punanny Poets) will MC? Now thats something. I had to call Olaywa Austin, founder of Town Logic Media Group and the shows promoter for the real.

A "No Poser" Show
Damn She Rawks came from a concept that Saucy and Austin devised as a way to shed light on hometown rock sheroes. "DSR is a collective of very talented ethnic women rockers", Olaywa continues, "the artists most often left out of rock music discussions." A seasoned MC, Holly is a seasoned stage vet. "Holly has performed around the world", Austin warns. "She has built strong relationships with other brown lady performers." The plan? Pick up local stars from around the globe as headliners and have the ladies of DSR serve as the "opening acts" for the best local lady rockers you've never heard of. A traveling "under card" of sorts. A September Prague show is in the works as well as shows featuring Latoya London's band Urban Punk and Stax Records artist N’dambi.

Is this truly unique (Oakland) approach the beginnings of a new standard? I'll be watching!

Shattuck Down Low
2284 Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley
http://www.shattuckdownlow.com/events/damn-she-rawks-feat-holly

EVOLVE: Soulful Dance Music
House DJ Soul Luciani is on a mission and he is evangelizing for Oakland's house music scene! You know the genre: Soulful dance music marked by repetitive undertones and percussive overlay. Made legendary by DJs/Producers like Louie Vega, Joe Claussel, and Timmy Regisford. Soul believes Oakland is ready for choices and he's ready to lend a hand.

Under a canopy of Old Oakland trees and over tea, he recently explained his belief in Oakland's future as a House Music Mecca. "Oakland is the center of The Bay and therefore, closer to culture and more firmly rooted." "Like Oakland, house is down to earth and open."

The Temple Effect
Luciani talks about the music as a platform for change; for healing. "Like drumming, house music opens the mind and the body. When you leave you feel rejuvenated." "I am creating ambassadors for Oakland", he continues. "This music is inclusive...it is spiritual."

His passion is compelling. It comes from witnessing the healing effects of the music. It all depends on what you want to attract. "Music is a subconscious magnet...you can talk about negativity or you can talk about love and caring." House makes you high because house music is about changing...about spirituality." That's the temple effect. Partying with HIGHER purpose.

Keep an eye out for parties that bump until sunset. Until then, DJs Soul, David Harness, and Rahiem Jihad set the tone at from 9-2 @ Evolve. It goes down every second Friday at Era Art Bar.http://www.oaklandera.com/

Oakland Stand Up!

Mr. Oakland

The World Is Calling

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ml6eSb9blqI/TXFyxphRFxI/AAAAAAAAANE/1PsoyLY0xTE/s320/Carly_cop.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5580367610573297426" /> I told ya'll!
Last year Mr. Oakland introduced you to Oakland-based paintbrush slinger Carly Ivan Garcia. (Man I miss that spot!) He instantly let me know what was up, "I'm a professional photographer." Respect. His priorities seemed clear and he believed in his abilities. I thought it might be good to work together in the future.
Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with him on a few successful projects. He has proven to driven and persistent. <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1lWspj7YnqQ/TXFw7ncnrbI/AAAAAAAAAM8/H22y87r-JJY/s320/Malik_scream.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5580365582792371634" />
He is always pushin' to improve. His momentum and work ethic seems to propel him through space. Think rocket! In homage to the work he loves, Malik shoots his subjects with a high level of respect. "I have put everything that I am into my craft." Because of this deep personal involvement (spiritual even) he becomes one with his subjects. Whether its The People party, a high fashion shoot, or the cataloguing of a private collection of ancient African masks, he exhibits the rare affinity to interact within the moment without becoming the moment.

See and Be @ Remedy Tonight
Capturing life's moments is a priority for Malik. "I create photographic documentaries." His new solo show, "Seeing and Being", is the result of 13 years of honing and fine tuning of his craft. The show will be an excellent opportunity to experience the broad spectrum within B. Malik shoots under. Live performance, still life, outdoor, fashion, and just plain-old random shit.

Opening tonight @ Remedy Cafe 4316 Telegraph Ave. I have fallen in love with this coffee shop! Since Awaken Cafe closed (soon to re-open) I have completely lost myself in this warm, urban cabin on Telegraph. The mix of retro, modern, reused stylings of the cafe should balance well with the angular beauty of the images. I haven't seen the show, but it will be a stop on my magical Murmur tour tonight. It will be my first time seeing it and I know there will be something that speaks to me. When the work speaks, I gotta move on it! You know what I always say? "Love an artist? Feed an artist."

Seeing and Being by Bryon Malik www.bmalikphotography.com
Remedy Coffee Shop-4316 Telegraph Ave. www.remedyoakland.com
Opening Reception: TODAY Friday March 4th 6-9
Show runs through March

After The Show: Head over to Mua's for Midnight Marauders

Ahn and Ahn Ahn and Ah, Ah, and Ahn's <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_6lgJbH2x-Q/TXFvVL5sNSI/AAAAAAAAAMs/6zYPoDeJjfk/s320/Ahn_sign.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5580363823051453730" /> Was hanging out with my favorite pregnant person this week. I like pregnant folk: They never slip on a food run. You are guaranteed to get your eat on when a expectant mother's food drive kicks in because she has been planning and plotting the next food move for hours. Shame on me for admitting this, but I had my first Ahn's Quarter pound Burger during that run...OMG!!!! Pastrami Cheesburger w/grilled onions...Phewwwwwwwwwwwww oui!!!! I have no idea why I never stopped @ that little brick hut in the past. I do know I will spend the rest of my life making up for it. Don't be like me, be better than me. Can't wait for my next one. Thank you pregnant lady. Thank you. <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-z8sj-gILavU/TXFwGKYD6kI/AAAAAAAAAM0/gXhjpk2vXkY/s320/Ahn_burger.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5580364664455555650" />
Ahn's is located @ 439 Grand Avenue (510) 763-4328

Oakland Stand Up!

Mr. Oakland

Next Time: Hooked On Derby!

In Need Of...

"Creativity is Spirit"
I have been feeling pretty stale after all the cold, wet, windy weather we've been having. Just kinda "blah" and neutral. As a result, I haven't felt much like writing. Not due to lack of subject matter, I just didn't want to.

Yeah, I said it. "I didn't feel like it!"

I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel pressed in by the city-especially when its cold and rainy. Did I mention windy? "This is The Bay Area. You can drive two hours in any direction and..." Yeah, yeah I know. Not practical. Trust me, this is one of those times when I was just gonna have to stay put!

I needed a healing. I needed to be baptized in the arts. I needed creative inspiration. I had to get out! As a result, I got a chance to mix it up with some of Oakland's brightest. Here's a taste:

Murmurs of Black History Month
I attended the openings of two powerful group shows: Aerosoul 2: Urban Hieroglyphics @ Joyce Gordon Gallery and Black Local: A Collection of Artists Currently Residing in the Bay Area @ Warehouse 416. Two very different approaches for exposing local Black artists. Many many approaches is best. Ya think?

God's on the boulevard building on life
Seeing Black people as celestial beings.
KRS One

Curator and participating artist, REFA 1, Aerosoul 2 asks, "How do we use our cultural disciplines to heal our neighborhoods and communities?" "writing" is not graffiti. "The lettering is reflective of Black culture." It supports its own "sensibilities and disciplines". This is what attracts the youth of the neighborhood when the artists congregate to complete a project. This is why they want to participate.

He then shares with me how a mural located @ the intersection of 14th & Campbell was so powerful that it caused all negative activities to cease for 2 years. "Creativity is spirit", he continues, "There is serious depression in our communities. The arts is significant in how we go through the process of healing our spirits and souls." These murals create a SAFE ZONE: They represent hope.

It is no surprise then when REFA 1 says, "This (writing)is the fastest growing visual art movement in the world."The Bay Area Aerosol Heritage Society is on a mission to show what this artform means to the African American community. After seeing a truly multicultural crowd in attendance during the opening, I am certain the message is being heard. Aerosoul 2 shows through 2/27.

Joyce Gordon, what moved you about this show? "The art is powerful. Besides I grew up with 7 brothers and I love Black men. Anytime I can help them do something positive, I will."

Donate at http://www.aerosoul.com/ to assist the Bay Area Aerol Heritage Society in bringing murals to struggling black communities and to raise cultural awareness, and to curb youth violence. Our new mayor should go see Joyce, give her a hug, and thank her for this show. You should too! http://www.joycegordongallery.com/

"I've Wondered About That Myself"
The show Black Local is the brain trust of Angela Scirvani, owner and curator of Warehouse 416. "My inspiration?", asks Scirvani. "I saw a lack of African American artists showing in Oakland." The Oakland native continues, "My intention was to bring out the Black community to The Murmur...to meet the artists and to build a multicultural (arts community) reflective of the city." So she put out a call to local artists via Craigslist. She also called upon longtime Oakland art activist Randolph Belle founder of www.SupportOakland Arts.org and organizer of the Art Census for further assistance.

She admits that doing this show is like walking on eggshells..."Black Local is bold." She is aware that she is in an awkward position and she makes no excuses or apologies for doing this show. "I grew up in Oakland and I like people who are real and willing to tell it like it is. When you need that fix, get around some Black folks!" "As a business owner, it also Besides, reaching out makes good business sense since it allows me to expand my client list." You are so right Angela!

Closing reception is today from 5-9pm. Visit the gallery's website for future show info @ http://www.warehouse416.com/

The Purpose of MixersWent to the last InOak mixer @ Disco Volante on 14th and Webster. Remember Cafe Katrina? Anyway...this monthly tech-influenced get together has grown into a crowded loud cocktail party. I love it!!! Meeting and connecting with people is the whole point of mixers, right. Just noticed a lot of confused people. Also overheard, "I don't know what this group is, but I heard about it on Facebook and had to come. Sigh...

Speaking of technology...did you see that Oakland-based Pandora is going public the middle of 2011. Oakland ain't high tech enough? Really? Get ready! http://techcrunch.com/2011/02/11/pandora-files-to-go-public/

Ran into local businessman Michael Bardales, who introduced me to Dr. Mariza Snyder. She and her business partner, Dr. Lauren Chin, have just completed a book entitled "The Antioxidant Counter". I was immediately intrigued. I told you I needed some healing so I'm down to listen to any REASONABLE ideas on improving the effectiveness of my diet. Besides there had to be other foods high in antioxidants that wasn't green tea, pomegranite, or acai berry. The challenge for me was finding a easy way to identify these foods. The healthy food game ain't easy to understand. I found the authors' simple explanation of complex chemical interactions helpful to understanding how my body absorbs nutrients and deals with toxins. I felt armed!

As a Mills gradute in biology and psychology, her goal was to become a medical doctor. "I had my acceptance to medical school and was ready to go." A "casual" referral brought her to a chiropractor to address migraine headaches. "I had had them since I was a child and nothing ever helped." So she had nothing to lose. Almost miraculously, the headaches were gone. "Haven't had one since," she says happily. Talk about life changing experiences. Laughing, she says,"I withdrew my admission to med school and entered chiropractic school instead". She is on a mission to heal. "Our goal at The Specific Chiropractic Center is to help as many people as we can."

Dr.s Snyder and Chin will be launching their new book, "The Antioxidant Counter" this Friday @ 4179 Piedmont Avenue, Suite 210 in Oakland. Last year was challenging for everyone: Even Mr. Oakland had to tighten that belt up to make it through. With that in mind, I have been slow to jumpin' on that band wagon of new year positivity.

Here we go!

Speaking of Missed Opportunities...
Don't know why you missed The Kenny Hawkins Groovin' Deep Music Project hosted by Charles Blades Barber Spa on December 30th. (See my last dispatch cause I told ya 'bout it!) What was there not to love about this set? Great food, slammin' jazz, special guest violinist and Oakland Public Conservatory faculty member Sandra Poindexter, and a beautiful slice of Oakland Goodness (Oakland folk) ready to soak up the holidays. Oh, did I mention that it was only $10? Standing Room Only! Oakland's jazz traditions are based in the jazz clubs (not ONE club). Look out for intimate venues and rich performances springing up all over The Town. Big Ups and many thank yous to Charles Blades for knowing what's up! www.charlesbladesbarberspa.com

Tuff(y) and Kuhl!
After reflecting on 2010, I realized that I missed some great positive jump off. One missed opportunity was Lil Tuffy's 2nd Annual "Showprints and Art" @ Kuhl Frames + Art. There was no way I was gonna miss the 3rd annual show!

Lil Tuffy is best known for his gig posters. Artists from MC Chris, Maus Haus, Thomas Dolby, Oakland's own Digital Underground, WuTang Clan, and Pavement. His aggressive use of color and space make for some thought provoking and humorous imagery. And because he is a self described member of the "attention deficit disorder generation" (Why is it so easy for me to relate to that?), he has created a prolific body of work influenced by, "1960's Russian matchbooks, Old West WANTED posters, National Park postcards, cocktail napkins, '70s strip club newspaper ads, the history of steel in Pittsburgh, and the atom bomb". The show has over 200 posters.

This KRS One joint was a dream acquisition. Been coveting that one for over 5 years. Big Man Lil Tuffy pointed me in the right direction and I was able to swoop this one up for myself. I know where the last available one resides. If you want it, I can hook that up for you. If you're astonished, don't be. I'm Mr. Oakland!

Since I Love Value
Most posters are in the $40 range. Consult with Travis about custom framing. Archival quality work is the rule. The highest quality and craftsmanship is how Travis does it. There are ready-fit frames to precisely fit the majority of Tuffy's formats as well. Or you can keep running to Ikea and Z Gallery for that mass-produced garbage all your friends keep copping. If more value is required, Tuffy and Travis will be hosting a closing reception January 29th from 5-9 PM. Does free PBR mean anything to ya? Limited edition poster, custom framing, and a free beer? Hmm...just go!

Located right @ the top of Franklin. You know that s-curve that ends @ Broadway?
Travis Kuhl's shop is open and bright; tucked between steel & glass modernity and brick & mortar classic Oakland architecture. Very unexpectedly cool. BTW that's how you pronounce Kuhl. Legendary local spinnas DJ fflood and DJ Cecil are at it again with a new weekly lovefest @ Paradiso (2272 Telegraph Avenue). RELEASE promises to satisfy in the tradition of The People, Soulful Sundays, Magic Milkcrates, and New Life. A two-level party with soulful house upstairs and dance hall downstairs. These DJs are skilled, diverse, and eclectic. Look for the dynamic duo to tag team on the sets throughout the evening. No big deal except that I just couldn't bear the thought of paying to park so I could address a parking ticket. That just seems so wrong. So in classic Oakland fashion, I revolted!

I parked near Jack London Square within the warehouse district (4 hour limit) and decided to take The Free B up Broadway. I have to say that I truly love the "f" word. There's just something about the way the word just rolls off the tongue and makes me feel so good. Go ahead. Say it with me: Free. Electric!

My first stop was Charles Blades Barber Spa http://www.charlesbladesbarberspa.com/ @ 180 2nd St for positive conversation about jazz, Oakland politics and the Arts. While there he turned me on to this holiday jazz event taking place on December 30th. http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=136746066378978&index=1

I missed the last show. Not this time.

For a crazy creamy killer cappuccino made from coffee roasted on premise, I made my way to Blue Bottle Coffee @ 3rd & Webster Speaking of BBC (sorry Pharrell), next time you stop in, have a latte made with Ethiopian Amaro Gayo. You can taste hints of blueberry muffins. For real? For real! Also hit them up for a (say it with me again) free cupping (think wine tasting, but with coffee) on Tuesdays and Sundays @ 2 PM-my biz partner LaShan and me are attending on 12/21...come with us.

I was ready to hit The Free B and head up Broadway, except that Roli Roti http://www.roliroti.com/ (divine) decided to set-up shop on the curb out front serving roasted meat creations. Could this be a divine sign? Fresh roasted coffee and fresh roasted meat? Given the flexibility offered me by my 4 hour parking window, I deduced the following: 1. Buy a sandwich 2. Walk it off by skipping the B & head up Broadway to Frank Ogawa by foot. "Hmmm", ...so I had the Roast Pork Loin w/Crispy Pork Belly Sandwich. Back Story: I grew up in a household that deemed pork as an abomination. You know, the usual. High blood pressure, cholesterol, and the "unclean" meat thing. That may all be true, but damn! Ok pork is bad except this sandwich and, of course, bacon. Put one of these sandwiches on your bucket list. It won't kill you. I'm just sayin'! Divine intervention indeed!

After making a quick stop @ RiteAid for some much needed H2O, I headed across Broadway to the parking office. I was greeted by the sweetest security attendant in THE WORLD City of Oakland Oak sticker. Branded swag? I thought we were in the midst of a recession? Do it Oakland! With my stickr proudly pasted on my jacket, I headed up to the parking office where I was promptly serviced. I was back @ the bus stop on 14th and Broadway within 10 minutes. It was a happy ride back to JLS on The Free B. Beautiful!

The best $10 I've spent on parking in many years. And no ticket!

Stuff like this happens to me cause I'm Mr. Oakland. It can happen for you too. Just keep reading my inconsistent dispatches and I'll keep you up on game...see you in the streets!

For Free B schedule and a route map visit Aunt Clara via the attached link.
http://www.actransit.org/maps/schedule_results.php?quick_line=B&Go=Go

Oakland Stand Up!

Mr. Oakland

Aima The Dreamer/Jazz Mafia Hookup for Tomorrow Friday 12/3

Alright now Oakland!!!

Mr. Oakland here to share what we love the most in life: A Damn Good Hookup!!

The Show:
Jazz Mafia featuring (Oakland's own) Aima The Dreamer
The Craneway Pavilion
1414 Harbour Way South
Richmond, CA 94804

Been noticing the buzz on Jazz Mafia for over a year and had a hard time believing what I was hearing: A 43 piece hip hop big band? That's right, a Hip Hop BIG Band performing an original hip hop symphony "Brass Bows and Beats".

Just downloaded some free music from their website: Yessir!! I have been dying for an epic hip hop production that involved live music for a long time. No offense to the Kev Choice Ensemble, but 43 pieces? Come on! You know Ellington, Basie, and Hampton wish they could come back for this!

So when my girl Aima The Dreamer informed me that she was on the bill I knew I was done.

About Aima:
I first saw her perform @ DJ Black's Halloween party. Is it possible to turn a party out with just two songs? Well she rocked it and I'm in love with her music! Her latest release "The Dreamer Mixtape" , produced by J Boogie, is NICE NICE NICE. J Boog put his foot in it.

Mr. Oakland has some Oakland love to share with YOU!

I have limited guest list privileges to share, courtesy of Aima. so hit me up by MIDNIGHT TONIGHT with names to add. It was amazing to see how much money I saved and how much better I felt-reduced my waistline and carbon footprint in one fell swoop! Still, riding Aunt Clara and BART most definitely lack spontaneity factor for making impulsive moves. In response, I dusted off my '90s era Bianchi Eros (Baby B), and solicited assistance from my good friend and riding "G", C. Brooks. After a few adjustments- two new tires, an inner tube, and some chain oil-CB got me on the road and I've been pushin' it like a 15 year old ever since.

During our visits to local bike shops to pick up parts and advice, I noticed an overwhelming attitude (not mean) just a look that says, "you don't know what you need, I do. Just shut-up and let me solve your problem!" I'm familiar with this attitude since my riding enthusiast (bike SNOB) of a son deals with me in much the same way. My logic: I need bicycle parts, service, and advice. Maybe I should visit a place that provides parts, service, and advice. I'm just getting reacquainted with biking and if I need to spend the money anyway, why can't I just get some questions answered without that condescending smirk?

While rollin' around on Baby B, I found...Manifesto Bicycle on 40th @ Webster. These folk have managed to create a shop that exemplifies Oakland-inclusivity. I was met with smiles (not eye rolls) and genuine interest in helping me get the right gear for MY NEEDS. My needs? I like that.

"We want you to come in and talk about bikes" explained co-owner Mackay. "We (she and her partner Sam) wanted to create a bike shop that feels like a skate shop." "Sam has been a bike enthusiast and mechanic his whole life and I'm an entrepreneur. When we started riding together it was like "ta da" this makes sense." To top it all off, these partners are Oakland Lovers and the rest is his(and her)story. They offer a nice selection of city rides and accessories as well as a complete mechanic's shop. Check out Bike Church on Sundays from 11-12. "Services" are held to empower riders to fix "your own" and share experiences with the local riding community. There's even coffee, live music, and vegan doughnuts. Hallelujah Baby B!

Visit Manifesto's website for more info and bicycle love.
http://www.wearemanifesto.com/

For more biking fun, peep these Oakland biking originals as well:
http://www.redbikeandgreen.org/blog/
http://www.oaklandyellowjackets.org/

The One Woman (Bicycle) Street Team: DJ Black
Earlier this year DJ Black got clipped by a car while on her bike while promoting Hella Gay or one of the many sets she throws in Oakland. My response? Dry heaves. Nah, I'm cool with that. During this period we all have experienced frustration and anger (both justified) over all affairs pertaining to our city. Today I concede the validity of my mentor's wisdom.

Oakland is a city built on activism and, therefore, political by nature. This spirit of activism is what makes us look like weirdos on some days and masterfully united on others: It's who we are as a city. Since the city is run by politicians (insert growling stomach sound) isn't it time I took an ACTIVE(ist) roll in improving MY Oakland first?

This past week I witnessed why Oakland is so lovely and special. Oddly enough, our unique political environment shapes our city's beauty. Note: I have no intention of presenting a political head trip in this dispatch. All I can share are my own observations, and (current) conclusions about what I have personally experienced.

Remember This Guy?
Who better to take Oakland to world-class city status than a internationally known son of the city than Ron Dellums? Um....BUST!

I love Ron. Born and raised right here, he is Oakland through and through. Unfortunately, he created a force field between himself and The People. It seems he forgot the value of street credibility while doin' his thang (quite well I might add) in the US Congress. High profile is cool only when the benefits reach the lowest.

As a lame duck mayor, I give him credit for trying to limp out on a high note. Thursday night, he honored Oakland-based Pandora Radio http://www.pandora.com/ CEO Tim Westergren with a city proclamation during InOak's (see Mr Oakland 7/22/10) final meeting of the year at the crazy beautiful Kaiser Bldg Rooftop Garden. The setting was classic Oakland. Unfortunately it felt like too little... Isn't this the type of presence we needed almost 4 years ago? (Sigh)

Walking With Rebecca
On Saturday I volunteered to walk precincts for mayoral candidate Rebecca Kaplan. It was tough taking my activism to the streets. Forecasts called for beautiful Bay Area fall weather and I even considered faking to bask in the glow. The goal: Canvas neighborhoods and get the word out that she was the only candidate presenting a plan for improving Oakland. "Nice!", I thought. What a great way to spend a Saturday in the sun and "do my part".

Oddly, I was perplexed at the number of people who knew very little about an "elected" official who has served Oakland for the past 9 years as a city council member and on the transportation board. On numerous occasions I asked residents, "Are you familiar with Rebecca Kaplan?" Most responses went like this: "Who?" or "I've heard of her, but I don't know much about her." By the end of my shift I had internalized the importance of getting the word out about the candidates most aligned with my vision and goals for what I want for Oakland. Equally important, I saw that we (and I) could WIN!

A 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Choice
Oakland is ready for change. For that change to be effective, we must elect officials that have a history and track record for working with The People of Oakland. In my opinion, there are only two candidates with this type of experience: Jean Quan and Rebecca Kaplan.

This is the first year Oakland will utilize Ranked Choice Voting. How it works: All voters get a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd choice for mayor. I only mention Ms. Quan, current council member for District 4, not as a lesser evil, but as a viable second choice. I make no mention of a third choice simply because there are no other candidates with any real experience effecting positive change for the majority of Oakland's residents.

My Candidate For Mayor
So without further prognostication, here is my choice for mayor: Rebecca Kaplan. I firmly feel that Rebecca Kaplan should be the next Mayor of Oakland for the following reasons:

1. I have personally observed her rally a cross-section of people and causes for the betterment of all of Oakland's residents.
2. Experience serving all of Oakland.
3. A Blueprint for the Future of Oakland. Check it out for yourself: www.kaplanformayor.org/blueprint-future

Some of my closest friends have questioned whether getting openly involved is a good thing for me. I say ABSOLUTELY. Check it, I'm not asking that you agree with me. Just do your damnedest to get what you want by getting involved in the process. Ultimately, we can't judge Ron, Jerry, Elihu or anyone else for our failures or successes. In the end, we are the ones judged by the outcome. You. Me. The People.

Oakland Stand Up!

Mr. Oakland

See the NY Times article on how Oakland's clergy has embraced Rebecca Kaplan as a symbol of positive change for Oakland. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/10/us/politics/10bcoakland.html?_r=2&0agewanted=1

Learn more about Rank Choice Voting from V Smoove at A Better Oakland
http://www.abetteroakland.com/how-your-ranked-choice-voting-ballot-gets-counted/2010-10-07

Barber Spa, The Off-Nites, and Our Lovely Celebrations!

Splitting Hairs
I met Charles Blades about a year ago when he was in search of a location for his new "barber spa". I asked then, "Why a barber spa Charles?" His response: "Men need care too. " He continued, "Besides, people are too busy to sit in a barbershop for hours to get a haircut." Tell me about it! I've endured looking like a mountain goat for way to long in an effort to avoid those crazy waits. "Besides", he continued, "we men need care as well."

Utilizing an approach exampled by the legendary barbershops of Chicago, Charles has created a cozy, low-keyed haven for men to have their grooming needs attended to. The Charles Blades Barber Spa is located in JLS's wharehouse district, CBBS offers haircuts, manicures, pedicures, and a select offering of grooming and shaving products for the man seeking prompt, professional service. "This is an art form...there needs to be a higher quality of service."

The space reflects Mr. Blades' respect for other art forms as well. References to jazz and the visual arts are prominent throughout-keeping the energy level high, yet relaxed. Appointments are gladly set and walk-ins are available for regulars. See the website for a complete list of services.

This Saturday September 4th, the spa will present An Evening of Jazz with the Kenny Hawkins Music Project from 7:00pm-11:00pm. The event will take place @ 247 4th St. Suite 110 Oakland. Admission is $5.00 and includes a glass of sangria and a lovely summer dessert selection. Call Charles to get lined up before the show.

Check out the spa blog for more details on whats good in men's grooming and style.

www.charlesbladesbarberspa.com/blog/

Off Nitin' It
Ah Friday & Saturday Nights: Traditionally, the nights to get out and socialize. Problem is, everybody else has the same idea. Too crowded, too loud, and frustrating. First, I didn't go out to smell dude's cologne. Coulda stayed home for that, right? Secondly, I just don't like when I have to yell to tell her that she looks beautiful tonight. Not sexy!

For me, I enjoy getting out on off nights. In my humble opinion, a "hot spot" is defined by its off nights-days not starting with 'F' or 'Sat' . Here are a couple of my favorite off night spots:

HeyLove-n-Life
MUA http://www.muaoakland.com/seems to be a little of everything to everybody. A great restaurant. A nice open space to see and be seen. Great bar. Good looking wait staff. Interesting, quirky art works. These personality traits are a few reasons why Mua is one of the best spots to head to on Friday or Saturday nights. If you've ever been here on the weekend, you already know what I'm talkin' about; its just packed! That's why midweek trips to Mua are a good look.

Consider Wednesdays: My girl DJ HeyLove spins and her multi-faceted sets are the perfect reminder that the weekend is on the way. Besides, she's cute (uber cute actually) and stylish as hell. She even dances throughout the set. A rare treat: Owner Hi-Suk shaking his immaculately styled hair-that's him on the move. Have some dinner and just kick back and talk to your table mates like you're lounging at home with your own live mix tape. Ya mean? Instant mid-week sexiness for ya.

Don't forget this crew is on this Friday following The Murmur. Midnight Marauders. Hey Love and CROSS DJ take over @ 9:00 and don't relinquish control until 2:00. Don't ask for requests, radio play is played out!

Geisha
Speaking of CROSS DJ aka Chef Eric, rolled me over to Geisha last night for a live art show featuring Jason Macaroni and the DJ, MC, Art collective known as Woke With A Plan get down on canvas. Impromptu and a total surprise for a Wednesday night, I watched this duo transform a stick "lady" figure into a angel of light. http://wokewithaplan.blogspot.com/

The "Sexy" Taco Tuesday Lives Here
Creative tapas and a rare stock of tequila...NICE!!!! No more crowded subpar Taco Tuesdays for Mr. O. since everyone's favorite Downtown Oakland tapas spot, Tamarindo, recently expanded and opened tequila bar extraordinaire, Miel. This space is bright and fun. Lots of light, greenery, and imagery everywhere. Tell the ever ready to serve bar masters Ivan and Adrianne that, "Mr. Oakland said,...the Tamarind Margaritas, Lime and Cactus Margarita, and the Sangria are a MUST." From 5:00-7:00 there are happy hour drink and food specials. $2.00 carnitas tacos, bean and cheese burritos (dreamy good), and if you are lucky, potato. Of course, items from the well loved daily menu are also available . Glow on Gloria!

www.tamarindoantojeria.com/

Image courtesy of Jimmy Kwong of http://www.reef-designs.com/

Not bad for an off night!

Tell Mr. Oakland about your favorite Oakland Off-Nite Spot. Maybe I can roll with ya!

Big Ups!! (aka the indicators that to show that Oakland is rising or as Mr. Oakland says, Know the OIRs before you talk smack about Oakland!)

Congrats to InOak (see Mr. Oakland for July 22, 2010 ) for creating enough buzz to get WSJ to cover the growing tech market here in Oakland. Good to see the techies coming out of their caves and getting some sunlight! The BART extension is cool, but Mr. Oakland's looking for a Silicon Valley extension. I tend to seek out those establishments that have a great selection, great service, and a focused, yet eclectic, offering. I wanna look good, smell good, and maybe pick up a heartfelt compliment for my originality along the way. I dig Henri Hubert because I feel like a GUY when I leave. Smell good supplies, masculine jewelry, unique tees, and a crazy selection of accessories galore. Word has it that her latest book, "Single Husband" (a poignant and explicit view into the down-low activities of 3 successful men and their wives) is set to premiere @ The Malonga Casquelord Arts Center November 5th in preparation for a potential national tour. All of the original music composed by D'Wayne Wiggins. Her overall literary success and the casting of predominantly local talent makes this a must-follow production. Well get ready because that's all about to change. INOAK was created by a handful of innovative new companies based in Oakland to inspire, encourage, and help build a strong tech business sector here in Oakland.

"Oakland is the center of The Bay Area and is a commuters dream.", says Chris Mottau of North Venture Partners http://www.northangels.com/ a angel investment group that helps tech companies gain a foothold in the marketplace. "The City of Oakland, the Community Benefits Districts (CBDs), and local business have been working over the past year to bring INOAK together", continues Chris. "This is truly a community collaboration and we are looking to get the word out."

Well you just did Chris!

The next Meet Up is August 19th in The Den @ The Fox and starts @ 5:00 PM . In an attempt to build neighborhood awareness; a newly formed business coalition is promoting what may be the most picturesque neighborhood in Oakland.

Thursday Night Live (TNL) is produced by The New Old Oakland Entertainment Group; a coalition of Old Oakland businesses formed with the purpose of bringing more people to the neighborhood. By partnering with the CBDs, Eastbay Express, Club One, and Yelp this team of “take charge of our own destiny” business owners refuses to wait around for opportunities to show up. For the past 2 weeks that has been painfully true for Mr. Oakland. Since July 3rd, 3 people in my life have "moved on". Three people that exemplify for me what it means to live the "Oakland Life". The life that so many people want to hate on and yet, can't help but want to BE US.

Love is Alive in Oakland
Growing up as a church kid, I was condemned to attend church-related functions sometimes 3 to 4 times per week. While I hated going most of the time (sorry Mom), choir rehearsal was one functions I loved. Why? Because we could learn Walter Hawkins songs: One of the benefits of growing up post "Oh Happy Day".

The Hawkins made it cool to be spiritual and funky, funky, funky! By making gospel music relevant to daily life and exposing the "true roots" of popular music, Walter (and his brother Edwin) became musical icons that changed not only gospel, but popular music around the world.

Yeah I said it! THE WORLD!!!

I will miss Walter for performing @ Art and Soul, always being fly (especially the hair), and mostly for reminding me that I live in a culturally relevant city that is ever changing, improving for the better, and influencing the world.

I said it again, THE WORLD!!!

Oakland's Light Chaser
I met Cathy Austin through her photography. Rich, vivid, and sometimes ethereal, the work had a strangely calming effect on me. She would say, "It's the light". "I wait for the light to reveal the true image." No effects. No PhotoShop. Just "the light".

Without fanfare, she came with Karen, her partner for over 20 years, to hang 12 pieces of her Oakland-centric works @ The Golden Bridge Lofts. The two of them worked quietly and in joy: Laughing, encouraging, critiquing until things were just right. Watching these two work, I never imagined that there was a war going onwithin Cathy's body. I only saw love and admiration.

She never let on and she never let her light diminish.

During our brief time together Cathy showed me the art of sharing. Sharing her passion for her art (she was a jazz DJ as well), her love of Karen, her friends, Big Blue, and her love for Oakland. Man she loved her some Oakland.

She was waiting for Oakland's light to be "just right"...
and for her, it is ever perfect.

See Cathy's love for Oakland on her site: click on"Oakland Reflections" and "Black & Whites" http://www.cathyaustinphoto.com/

Wonder Woman Was Here
Christy Freitas wasn't famous. She didn't have one of "those" talents that made everyone stop and notice her. What she was was extremely genuine. Bright, sarcastic, funny, & imaginative she could bend you over with laughter or scold you into submission with a simple glance.

This ability was due to her "magic power". Powers gleaned from her time in Amazonia hanging with Wonder Woman. You remember "The Lasso of Truth", indestructible bracelets, and invisible jet, right? She always claimed to have this gear, but would never show me. "That's only to be used when necessary."

As a mere mortal, she had the power to pour courage, sincerity, generosity, and love on her family and friends.

To top it all off, she was a mad crazy Raider fan.

And that's alright by me!

Oakland Stand Up!

Mr. Oakland

PS Oakland: Think of 3 people in your life that best exemplify the "Oakland Life". Read on my peoples!

Buy Low & Never Sell This Work
Word is there are more working artists per capita in Oakland than in any city in the US. You may even know a couple, but few are puttin’ it down like Carly Ivan Garcia (CIG). Not only has CIG proven to be a hard-working purveyor of his craft, he is doing it collaboratively. “When you get away from The Bay, people see us as The San Francisco Bay Area; not East Bay or Oakland. We can’t change that view.” So it makes sense to show Oakland as a jewel in the crown that is the Bay Area. This past December, CIG hit Miami’s Art Basel, the stateside version of Art Basel-Switzerland, like a tropical depression. In Miami he rubbed shoulders with “The Father of Digital Art” Laurence Gartel, collaborated on a installation with two other Bay Areans-Robert D. Harris (SF) and Armogeddon 2057 (SJ)-for Graffiti Gone Global, and sold his vibrant works to a slew of international art fiends seeking the bestest/brightest/ newest/freshest pieces to add to their collections. The buzz was strong enough for CIG to snag representation in New York & Miami.

“I have worked with Robert and Armo on the RAW shows at The Uptown and I respect their work”, Carly recently told me. “The commission work for Ali is a collaborative by Robert and me…I'm really excited to do that…it’s a huge honor. Especially to rep Oakland and The Bay”
“Did you say Ali?”
“He's familiar with our work; he liked it.”
“He liked it?”

"Yeah."
I guess he did!

Carly's aggressive use of color and texture are adventurous and fearless: People respond BIG.

Look for Carly’s work March 17th in the award winning new film “Touching Home” starring 4 time Academy Award winner Ed Harris. If you work it right, you might be able to get in line to nab one of these film originals (that's not Carly, but an actor playing an artist). If not, he is always creating more. Catching an artist on the rise with a crazy mad work ethic like CIG's is the closest to a "sure thing" that you can find. Just remember that Mr. Oakland told you first.
“What’s up next Carly?”
“Man, I just love to paint.”

Buy now or hate later!

See Carly’s work via these links or hit ‘em up on Facebook: http://web.mac.com/dpogni/iWeb/Site/HOME.html

Art Is Love-CIG, Robert, and Armo prepping for Graffiti Gone Global @ Basel 2009:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNebILGDmrw

Oakland’s Professor of Dance
Reginald Ray Savage is a professor-The Dance Doctor. As the Director of Dance @ Oakland School for the Arts http://www.oakarts.org/ (OSA) he is directly for responsible for the development of The Bay’s young raw dance talent. “My program is intense. I expect a lot from my students; I expect their best“. Seeking excellence doesn’t always help him make friends with the students. “Not all of them like me, but they do respect me”, he says emphatically. Continuing, “A few of my students are not the most talented dancers. What they want is to be exposed to those students and a program that pushes them toward excellence.” His program is home to the best academic performers at the school. This approach has rewarded “Dr” Savage a high level of respect and loyalty from his kids and therefore, the community.

Always leading by example, Savage is taking his latest work to the stage. Savage Jazz Dance Company http://www.savagejazz.org/ (SJDC) begins their 18th season with the world premiere of Savage’s interpretation of Igor Stravinsky’s, Agon. Originally premiering in 1957 as a ballet for 12, Agon was choreographed by the great George Balanchine. Savage makes it clear that this is not an attempt to “to compare myself to Balanchine” but more as a “measuring stick; a way to keep the next generation moving upward”.
The dance is an inspired response to the music and after 50 years the music is very relevant and current. That inspiration is reflected and apparent. Go see Agon. More importantly, see the depth, love, creativity and commitment to excellence. It’s The Hope of The Town!

Agon runs through Saturday @ Laney College. I’ve been attempting to evaluate, meditate, and pontificate on what the past year has meant to me and what I want 2010 to bring. That comes from within. Since I believe in the healing and spiritual power of The Town, I am also seeking wisdom and signs of joy from what Oakland has to offer me. Nine days have passed since the ball dropped on 2010. Here are a few sights and sounds of Downtown Oakland that have (and continue) to inspire me:

SISTER CLASSIQUE
This month, the sparkling jewel that is the Joyce Gordon Gallery is again on hard-hit mode with the show Amor Fati. I wish I could give you some eloquent description of this show and what it represents, but I am not an art writer. Sorry. What I can tell you is the show is vibrant and fresh. Pay special attention to the work of Favianna Rodriguez. Ms. Gordon has been challenging our notions of what is cool, artistic, and significant for many years. The front window is most definitely worth a night time pass by. The show runs through February 8th. http://www.joycegordongallery.com/

MAKE ME LAUGH/FORCE ME TO THINK
I don’t know about you, but I thought Avatar was a lot of fun for its use of technology, pure film making prowess, and imagery. Thank you W. Kamau Bell http://www.wkamaubell.com/ , Nato Green http://www.natogreen.com/, & Hari Kandabolu http://www.harithecomic.com/ for busting my bubble and single-handedly ruining my mindless blockbuster experience and rendering 189 minutes of well deserved escapism a waste of time. Laughter Against the Machine is intense in-your-grill funny and is a economical way to gather some political introspection. Whatever happened to comedians that told jokes to get laughs or free drinks? Just kidding! These guys made me laugh without forcing me to dumb down. BTW you must see yourself @ The New Parish (aka the “old” Jimmie’s night spot) very soon. The venue is home to a majestic brick walled club and a soon-to-come Cajun/New Orleans style restaurant called Hibiscus. The spot is the same, yet fresh. Believe me; you can still feel the love. http://www.thenewparish.com/ and http://www.hibiscusoak.com/

IN THE CUTS
DJ Ryan and DJ Oliver recently held an impromptu get together @ Golden Bridge Lofts: Music spinning, guitarists strumming, and percussionists percussing (that’s one of my own words). Jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove www.myspace.com/royhargrove rolled through to hang. The word is getting out ya’ll-Oakland is the place to be if you want to be down with “The Real”! The Roy Hargrove Quintet performs through January 10th. His funk/hip-hop band, RH Factor, will blow up the spot January 14th-17th @ Yoshi’s San Francisco. http://www.yoshis.com/

RUNNING MY RACE
Lastly, I have been running The Lake in preparation for the Oakland Running Festival at the end of March. Haven’t decided whether to run the half marathon or create a 4-person team to run the entire 26.2 miles with. Whatever I decide, the idea of watching the sun come up over the hills and turning the sky golden for a brief moment is worth the cold air and the pain. It has been 25 years since Oakland has hosted an event like this. I’m trying to represent! Look for me out there. I’m the one with the snot running down his face screaming profanities as he runs. Since I'm new to the blog game, I figured it couldn't hurt to kick it with more experienced writers and have an excuse to hang out @ a cool new lounge. Since I'm into win-win scenarios, I had to hit it!

The Lay Over http://www.oaklandlayover.com/ was a excellent setting for this eclectic mix of project managers, media relations managers, consultants, real estate professionals, artist, and entrprenuers to gather. Its vintage cozy seating, soft ambient lighting, and ever-changing HOT HOT local art provided by BayVAN http://www.bayvan.org/ make it a unique neighborhood "dive bar" minus the freefall. DJs with a sense of history and a penchant for the obscure keep the musical energy high. Did I mention good drinks? If I didn't, I just did. Look for the green neon martini glass on Franklin @ 15th and drop in soon.

Most notably in attendance was Rebecca Kaplan, Oakland City Councilmember @ Large. She is making a serious push to lure a WNBA team to Oakland. She told this Blogger, "We just need someone with a spare $5 million to get things going." I told her that I would ask you all about it. Well, what do you think? Hit her up and let her know where you heard about it. She's all ears. rkaplan@oaklandnet.com . Keeping it timely: Gwen Knapp of The SF Chronicle implys that a WNBA team "is coming". http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/12/09/SPRO1B122K.DTL Hanging with my fellow bloggers helped me to see how important your support is. You wouldn't know it from my pink fuzzy hat, but my Oakland Shop Girl helps me to stay up on all things fashionable. Check her out if you need to spice up your wardrobe. Attention Fellas: She is a crack fashion aficianado . I promise she'll make you look like Heidi Klum hooked it up. Speaking of shopping, hit up these two Oakland-centric holiday shopping events featuring one of my favorite Oakland "image go getters" Cathy Austin http://www.cathyaustinphoto.com Ms. Austin focuses her lense on Oakland-scapes with an emphasis on using natural light. No Photshop here baby! She waits for the right shot and cracks it off ala Ansel and Avedon.

The particulars:

FULL MOON BUY NIGHT-OAKLAND'S INDIE NIGHT BAZAAR

Holiday Buy NightOakland's Holiday Shopping Mall-ternative

Dec 10th and 11th, 20095:00-10:00pm

Inside Jack London Market

55 Harrison @ Water St.

http://cts.vresp.com/c/?JackLondonSquare/a4270f1c59/d7c2e229b2/9cf5c62a19

THE SPACE WINTER CRAFT FAIR

Saturday, December 12th

11AM - 6PM

4148 MacArthur Blvd, Oakland

Until next Wednesday!

Peace, Prosperity, and OAKLAND LOVE,

MR. Ok. She wasn't my real aunt, but she and my Mom were true "sisters". Fairyland, Knowland Park, I. Magnin, Jack London Square, Doggie Diner, and Capwell's ? The only thing better was one of those sunshine-laced days to make it a perfect day. I even decided to attend high school here. I couldn't get enough!

My Blog will be devoted to all things Oakland; especially the revival of Downtown. I live Downtown. I work Downtown. I love in Downtown. It is my goal to have as many Oakland Lovers live in Downtown as possible.

Lovers of Oakland Unite!
